Obviously he was doing something right
Filling out paperwork for a couple with different surnames at work.
ME: So what marital status would you like recorded? Single, defacto...
HER: Um, defacto I guess
HIM: Babe, we're married.
That must have been one hell of a ceremony.

Freezing cold wind tonight, and no wonder, judging by all the snow pics popping up on my fb news feed. It's snowing with a vengeance down south and the wind is blowing the chill up to our normally temperate clime. It's currently 14 degrees after a high of only 22 today - after last weekend which topped 35 it's a bit on the cool side.

Heeeeeee!

And snow? Really? Wow...

Snow indeed... taken by my ex- sis in law at Katoomba today -

When I was living at Oberon in NSW it snowed on New Years' Eve. Bloody cold hole of a place that was, I couldn't get out of there quickly enough.

You'd better have one of my favourite icons... *g* Me, I couldn't get out of the likes of 35C quickly enough - how gorgeous does Katoomba look! And oh, I've just thought - I need to see snow on gum trees! I wonder where and when'd be a good place to go for that... My brother takes his wee gang up to Baw Baw to play in the snow sometimes - once nephew agreed to put up with wearing mittens he apparently loved it. 'course they're way down south compared to you... *g*

The Snowy Mountains would be the best bet to see snow on gum trees; you're pretty-much guaranteed to see snow there most winters. It does snow in other areas but not frequently enough to be able to know for sure you'd see it.
Love your icon! The lads, bedazzled by snow.

Blimey, SNOW?

My new colleague is from "Rural Western" Australia originally but grew up in Brisbane. She told me she'd never seen snow until she lived in Northern Japan for a few years.

I've yet to see snow here in Brissy but when I lived further south it was sometimes to be seen. The above piccy was taken in Katoomba, which is in the Blue Mountains of NSW. It might snow there once every two years or so, and usually lasts a day. It's enough of a novelty that people will drive for an hour or so just to see it :-)

MG didn't see snow for the first time until he was 10 years old. We live about 200 miles north of where he grew up and we normally get an inch or so of snow for 1-2 days a year at most.

I grew up in Sydney which is snow-free; the first time I saw snow was on a trip with my (almost at the time) (now ex) hubby - we camped in his panel van in midwinter out the back of Lithgow in the Blue Mountains. Coldest night I've ever spent. In the morning we had to scrape the snow off the windscreen.
Then moved to Oberon where snow was a common occurrence; it's the only place I've ever lived where the postman does his deliveries on skis.

Here (in the province), the law is that the woman keeps her name. Though it does cause some problems with the other provinces sometimes ;-(

And snow? Isn't it spring in your neck of the wood?
Here, this week, the temps was around 2-3 C in the morning... Winter is coming : waiting for the bus yesterday, with the cold wind, convinced me; I need to get my winter coats out ;-)

See, that's civilised. Why SHOULD she change it? It's a holdover from the times when a woman was considered property.
I was just amused by the fact that she seemingly forgot that they were in fact married.

Yes, it's the middle of spring here now. It was 35 last Sunday so this is a real surprise. I've had to drag the duvet out again tonight.

Winter is coming : throw another direwolf pelt on the bed... :-) Down to 2 -3 and you're only just thinking about dragging your winter coats out now? I got mine back out again for this morning and it was 12 degrees! Obviously you're of much hardier stock than us poor fragile flowers.

At the time, an uncle of mine noted that even if a woman keeps her name, it's still a man's name. Except it's her father's ...
We can't win :-(

It wasn't the temp that was the problem yesterday, but the wind. Though I agree, we are used to the cold (me more than average : I have very good insulation!).
OTOH, I'm pretty sure I would not survive your weather : 35C is cool?

No, thanks!

Damn you, patriarchal society! *shakes fist*
Perhaps girls should get their mother's name, and boys their father's?

35 isn't cool, especially if there is humidity involved. It's just been such a week of extremes.

Eeeek! No snow yet!! But the way the temperature has been so cold lately, it's very possible it could happen sooner than it should.
miwahni: Random Snowflakemiwahni on October 13th, 2012 07:29 am (UTC)
Would you like our snow, then? *g* It's been a funny week, this last one, ranging from 35 on Sunday down to snow temps yesterday.

LOL! about forgetting she was married. Poor husband.

This weather is driving me barmy. Had to get the fans out last weekend, but just as well we haven't put the heaters away yet. Also have had to drag out the winter dressing gown and clothes. Supposed to warm up a bit during the week, but the wind is still strong and cold.

The wind today wasn't much better than yesterday was it. It's just ridiculous. I had the aircon running late Sunday afternoon, and last night I had the duvet back on the bed. This time of year is supposed to be pleasant, mid 20s without blowing a cold gale.
