One thing about my holidays....
I can't believe how many times my phone rang during the daytimes - telemarketers every one of them. It got to the point that I simply let all calls go through to the answering machine, and if they didn't leave a message then obviously they didn't need to talk to me. One call I did pick up was from an electricity company, whose representative told me that from next fortnight my bills would be coming from his company rather than my current one. When I asked why, he said it was because of the discounts they offered. Sneaky underhanded way to do business, I thought. I wonder how many people would take that at face value and assume it was a compulsory change. It took a bit of convincing (mentioning going to the ACCC if my billing company should change without my explicit permission) before he gave up on me.

I can't believe they think we'll buy whatever they're trying to sell us when they are so annoying :-(

The one advantage of the cell phone : caller id! If it's not my area code, I don't answer :-)

It does have its advantages, doesn't it.

We have VOIP phones at the house and they announce who is on the phone which is rather great in terms of avoiding telemarketers.

That would be neat. My phone will display the number of incoming calls but a lot of my friends have private numbers that don't display, making the feature a bit useless :-(
