Never too late to update
So I finally - FINALLY - got myself a flatscreen TV. It's a 55" Sony 3D capable full HD smart tv, such a huge change from my old CRT 27 inch tv that's lasted me since 1999 and was still going strong, so I felt just the tiniest bit guilty about updating.

And now I need to update my DVD player, as my current one is really old and doesn't transmit / read HD, so when I try to play a DVD it looks really grainy on the screen. If I have to update it anyway, may as well go to a bluray player - but I need one that will play multi region DVDs so has that limited my choices? Why yes, yes it has.

Anyhow, to celebrate the successful update I spent this evening streaming Pros songvids to the big screen. I have over 130 Pros songvids - what a prolific and talented fandom is Pros! And what a fun Saturday night I've had.

Now I just have Rage playing in the background, a nice accompaniment to a Saturday night. Hope everyone else is having as relaxing and enjoyable time.

oh my, that's culture shock going from 27 inch to a 3D/HD telly. Enjoy!

It's a huge difference (literally! *g*).

My cousins have Tellys that size but only HD and not 3-D! Still it's an amazing difference from the one I have...not large at all I'm afraid.

Enjoy!

That's what I ended up ordering - I figured that if I was updating anyway I might as well get a bluray player. My biggest problem was finding a region-free player for all of my o/s dvds, as they're technically illegal in Australia. Did manage to find one online, though, and should have it by the end of the week.

You'll find a whole lot of difference xx

Oh, you're ahead of me - I'm still thinking about it! I keep thinking that a flat screen tv would give more screen for less space in my wee room, and that if I'm going to do that then I should obviously get an HD smart one, and... and then it's just a slippery slope. *g* Right now I have my landlady's 18-ish" crt one, which is fine, but - amongst other things I have to plug and unplug to go from tv to dvd, so I hardly ever watch tv... I generally like Sony too - you'll have to let me know how you get on!

And yeay for streaming Prosvids to the big screen - sounds like a good Saturday night to me... *g*

That would drive me nuts, having to unplug and plug, somehow it just wouldn't seem worth the hassle.
I've been waiting for ages for my CRT TV to die but it wouldn't co-operate - I only updated now because I'd been to my sister's place and watched a couple of episodes of Dr Who on her huge screen and couldn't get over the difference in picture quality with the full HD.
And it was a good Saturday night, ta very much. So many lovely vids.

Nice, aren't they? :-)

Mine is HD (but not a smart one), and not 3D (because I can't see in 3D, so why pay for it?), but still... it's mounted on the wall, which is a big plus!

Even though its main use is playing music ;-/
I don't really need a tv....

Being mounted on the wall would be a bonus! Mine is on a stand, with a strap at the back which is screwed to the entertainment unit so the cats can't knock the thing over.
I do think it's a bit of overkill, with the smart functions and the 3D, but it was the size I wanted and 100HZ refresh rate, the smart functions and 3d just came with it.
Of course now I need to upgrade my DVD player because it can't transmit HD pictures, so DVDs look very grainy.... :-(

Congratulations! We also traded up from our old reliable one and the difference was far greater than I was expecting.

Also, that 3D bit has the most impact with animated films.

It was surprising; I'd gone to my sister's place to watch a dvd with her and was blown away by how good the picture looked. I'd been hanging out for years thinking my old CRT tv was bound to die soon but after seeing the picture on my sister's tv I was convinced to make the change.
