Give me back my chickens!
I had the weirdest dream the other night. In it, I was keeping chickens (well, hens, really) in long low cages, stacked in the back of a 4WD vehicle in my backyard. I wanted to get a proper henhouse built and to that end I engaged a traveller family who had stopped by. While the man of the family was going over the plans with me, his wife took out a tray of chickens saying that she needed to take them with her while the henhouse was being built. I was having a tug-of-war with her, telling her to keep her hands off my chickens, when I woke up.

I've been thinking about it since, and wondering what it's trying to tell me. Am I such a slave to routine and "what I've always done" that I can't let things go even when I know that it's not good for me, or that there's a better way of doing? Am I such a control freak that I can't give up control of any aspect of my life?
Or did I just have too much cheese at dinner time?

*poke* sorry, couldn't resist Bodie's belly button in your icon.

The dream was one of those things that just got me thinking... wondering if it really is trying to tell me to loosen up and let go a bit. *g*

I'd go with your subconscious realization that the chickens are in league with the penguins and are, in fact, our evil overlords.

Well, that or the cheese.

Oh definitely the penguins. And that sort of megalomania knows no bounds. I'd say I got off pretty lightly really - lucky I realised this now, and not after I got the coop built.

I think the chickens were your ideas/plans/hopes, and you have been caring for them and carrying them with you. You wanted to expand their potential, but fear other people claiming them for their own.

BUT I have a ridiculous book of 10,000 dreams interpreted-- lets see what it says.

If you see a cage full of birds, you will be the happy possessor of immense wealth and many beautiful and charming children.

OTOH- to hear the cackling of hens denotes an unexpected death in your neighborhood. Sickness will cause poverty.

so.. a lot of cackling hens in a cage will mean you'll be rich AND poor....

Seeing a brood of chickens denotes worry from many cares, some of which will prove to your profit.

Seeing fowls denotes temporary worry or illness. For a woman to dream of fowls indicates a short illness or disagreement with friends.

To dream of hens denotes pleasant family reunions with added members.

So, you'll have a nice family visit, with extra people, and then quarrel with them?

If by 'traveller' you mean something like 'gypsy' (not PC but this is an old book) then To dream of trading with a gypsy you will lose money in speculation- this dream denotes that material pleasures are the biggest items in your life.

Do you know, I like your interpretation far better than anything your book said.
Yes, by "traveller" I meant "gypsy" - perhaps I should get out of the stock market? It's called a bull or bear market, never heard mention of chickens there though. *g*

Maybe a chicken is someone afraid to play the market!

Hee - I think I wonder what kind of houses you've been mortgaging for lately... *vbg*

I think it's a combination of that, and the chicken house I saw at City Farmers on Saturday when I was buying more litter - plus the flyer that I brought home from the Ekka from a guy who builds hen houses.
But I like entropy_house's interpretation, above.

Chickens! I like that dream - I wouldn't have let them take my chickens away either.
