Baby needs new shoes
I've been putting it off since late last year, while deciding whether to keep or trade my car, but now that I've decided to hang onto it a bit longer I couldn't put it off any more and had to get new tyres. The tyre place is within walking distance so I was able to drop the car on Saturday morning, wander home and potter about until it was time to collect it.
And they are rather cool tyres (if you're into that kind of thing :-) )
Had to laugh when the sales guy was explaining their tyre rotate-and-balance plan, done for free every 5000km; I could expect an email, he said, in three months' time as a reminder. Considering I do about 5000km a year I think the plan might actually outlive the car.

Yesterday, the shortest day, was a day for reflection on life, and general contemplation. I kept coming back to this one poem, and the closing lines which clench my heart:

Such a late response to your reply, I'm sorry! Thank you, I hope your solstice was equally lovely.

those are such cool tyres ...if you saw the tyres that are on my car ..oh dear i should hang my head in shame .The reason i don't want to spend any money on it is that i hope to change the car in the next few months . Hopefully the dream will become a reality ...i long for a ford focus xxx

Beautiful poem which I had not seen before, and fitting my unsettled mood, too as two dear friends (both much younger than me) are very ill. Perhaps I owe it to them to make sure I cherish some of that wildness in my life.
Solstice greetings to you, in the midst of your winter, from the Cotswolds at the height of summer!

Could do with some of your summer right now; was rainy and cold here today, only reaching 18 degrees which is four below average for this time of year.

That poem is like a wake-up call, I thought. Hugs for your friends.

Thanks to you, I have now acquired two books of poetry by Mary Oliver and think I shall be very grateful to you for the introduction. I have always loved poetry, for as long as I can remember so it is a great joy to discover a 'new' poet who is going to give me much pleasure. Words spanning the world, there is much to be grateful for on this World Wide Web. Thank you!

You are very welcome. It made such an impression on me, especially while thinking of Mead, that I had to share. I hope you find enjoyment in the books. I have had to order a book as my local bookstore had never heard of Mary Oliver.:-(

Love the poem; it fits exactly my own emotional/mental state these past few days.

It got to me so much that I printed out the last two lines and stuck them to my PC monitor at work.
