My family crest should be an ostrich with its head in the sand.
... with the motto ignoratio beatitudo est

I'm worried about Harry. I know that his breed is predisposed to cardiomyopathy, and I know his breeder said that all her cats are tested, but he gets tired out so quickly, and sometimes when he's lying down his sides are heaving so quickly, much quicker than my other cats (and yes, I know their hearts beat faster than ours). And then today after a game of "chase the laser pointer" he was panting, and it wasn't that hot. I am studiously avoiding looking up cardio in cats; I've come across it before, when I was still breeding Birmans, as it lurked in their lines, but I.Just. Don't. Want. To. Know.

He's nearly due for his next vaccination. I think, when I take him for his needle, I'll have to ask for an Xray. But I don't want to.

He's gorgeous, as is Pickle. Am sending prayers that all will be well. I know the feeling of denial and dread very well, so I am in complete empathy with what you are going through.

Hope and prayers that the vet says he's fine and that it's nothing at all or just minor.

How old is Harry?

Thanks for your kind words, and thoughts. I am hoping I'm entirely wrong and that it's just that he's such a big cat, tiring himself out. He's only 14 months old.

14 month wow...he's still a baby. Even though he's a big cat, given his age...that's a tough call.

Fingers crossed he's fine and hugs to you my friend

Such beautiful cats. I'm not much of an animal person, but my daughter is. She is a vet tech and also works with horses on the side. She has animals instead of children. So I do realize how you feel about your pets. :/

Thank you, yes they are beautiful cats - although I could be biased, as I own Harry and bred Pickle!

He seems to have an awfully thick coat, perhaps he's just overheating?

*squishes you* ♥

I'd like to think he's just hot, especially as he's so big - my Birmans all have big coats, too, and none of them pant, and that's why it worries me. Still, trying to remind myself that cardio usually manifests when the cat is under anesthetic for the first time ie when being desexed, and Harry was desexed 11 months ago and got through just fine.

Beautiful felines; hope all will be well with him at his checkup.
