14 - The gods smiled upon me today
I promised I'd help my sister with the filling-in of a hole left after the removal of a swimming pool from her investment property. It meant shovelling and barrowing soil from the front of the property around to the back. Today was to be the day - and today was also to be 42 degrees C so to say I was not looking forward to it was an understatement. I was seriously concerned that we'd all get heatstroke before we were finished - but someone was looking out for us, because the load of soil didn't arrive! Woohoo!

Instead I planned out more of our trip, and then crashed on the couch to watch The Hollow Crown which was much more enjoyable than shovelling soil.

It's just been so hot, though. I've shaved off my oldest girl, and also took a couple of pedestal fans downstairs to keep the air moving down there. It's the coolest place in the house to start with, and by closing the doors and windows it managed to stay fairly cool (by comparison at least!). Also tipped cool water over the concrete floors, so that the evaporation would help keep things a bit cooler.

We're due for a cool change either tomorrow or Tuesday but it's only expected to drop the temps by around 10 degrees. Ah well, that's what I get for choosing to live in a semi tropical climate.

Erk, better you than me in all that heat, especially if there are swimming pool holes to be dug! I do like the sound of your alternate plans, though! *g* Shall cross my fingers the cool change is tomorrow rather than the next day too. *g*

Well the cool (ish) change blew through on Monday evening after a storm, and it's only been around 30 since. Cool in comparison!

You know my opinion on warm weather... :-/

Staying cool here is not a problem : I have something like 3 feet of snow in the backyard... pretty to look at from the solarium :-)

Yes, yes I do... *g*

Snow would be welcome around about now. I'm looking at houses in Tasmania - just think how much hotter it will be, what with global warming and all.

Heard about your heatwave as my friend is over visiting his sister who's having surgery to rebuild her jaw after cancer years ago. They're in Sydney.

Hope the weather stays soft for you when the soil arrives and the shoveling begins!

Sydney has been fierce! They've had days of the 40 degree temps. One of our staff in Sydney told me the other day that it was already 30 when he was waiting for his train at 6am. Yikes.

I'm further north than Sydney but we don't seem to get it as bad as they do.

He's been posting on Face book and said they were waiting for a break in the heat, but it sounds like it didn't come. Wow!

You really were thinking of doing all that hot sweaty work when we were having it drummed into us that it was going to be a real scorcher on Sunday?!? Whose daft idea was this? Just as well that soil wasn't delivered or you'd all be in the Emergency Department - or dead. *bg*

Trouble with this weather is that it is just as hot outside as inside especially at night. But we soldier on.

Loong story about tenants at the house where the hole is - being my brother in law's daughter from his first marriage, and her partner who is a total tosser. Such a tosser, in fact, that BIL put the house in the hands of a rental agency just so he didn't have to deal with the constant complaints about stuff. But the hole has to be filled, and we're the ones available to do it, so... dig we shall. Looks like being this Sunday now.
