JB Decisions Rock paper scissors

Still up in the air here.

The election may be over but the result is still far from certain, with counting to continue for a few days yet, and both major parties scrambling to strike alliances with the elected independents in order to form a government.

The numbers make interesting reading. Of the 14,088,260 Australians who have registered to vote, 11,048,877 turned out on Saturday, being a 78.43% strike rate. What I find fascinating is that 622,088 of those people cast an informal vote. I'd like to hope it was accidental - it bothers me to think that so many people would stir themselves to go to a polling booth (and queue, like I did) and then throw their voice away. If you're going to go to the trouble of getting there, you may as well have a say in the result.
