Five down and five to go

"That's a Brock drive - that's as good a drive as you'll ever see."
Mark Skaife, praising his co-driver Craig Lowndes today after they took the chequered flag in the Super Cheap 1000 at Mount Panorama, Bathurst. It was Lowndesy's fifth victory in the race; another five will see him eclipse Peter Brock's record at the mount. Wonder if that will ever happen?

Other drivers had their dramas; a spectacular rollover on the first lap, a kangaroo on the track, car doors falling off, and concerns about fuel after an ill-timed safety car, but the Lowndes/Skaife combo just kept powering on, eventually finishing the race in six hours 13 minutes, beating the previous race record of six hours 19 minutes set in 1991, and proving that the telecast is not entirely "live". I had to keep away from facebook and news websites to avoid being spoiled before the telecast actually ended.

(and Murph finished sixth! He always does so much better at Bathurst than at any other circuit.)

What a brilliant day it was to spend curled on the lounge in front of the telly; cold, wet and windy outside, so the lounge was the place to be.
