Aussie Aussie Aussie

Other stuff

Today is Australia Day, meaning a day off work, and I planned to rip the old grotty carpet out of the spare bedroom as it always smells musty in there and I blame the carpet. I didn't dare hope to find polished floorboards beneath so was thrilled when I discovered them - will need to go over them again but at least I didn't find the bare untreated floor which I was expecting.

What I wasn't expecting, though, was to find that the built-in wardrobe was built some time after the carpet was laid and they just built right over the top of it. Now it looks like I will need to replace the skirting boards as there is a one centimetre gap between the bottom of the skirting board and the floor, all the way around the wardrobe, and tufts of carpet and underlay poking out. :-(

Also will need to wait until the weekend to get the carpet out of the house; I'd not realised how heavy it would be and now that it's all rolled up I simply can't lift it - can't even drag it, for that matter. Hopefully my son will have no plans for this Saturday. Am so looking forward to seeing the room once I've given the floor a polish, moved the furniture in and put down a rug.

I've decided to do away with the double bed in that room (another thing I'll need help with!) because it's only been used twice in the last year. Instead I'll buy a day bed - have my eye on one from Ikea which doubles as a storage unit, and pulls out to make a double bed. See? With my pink floral quilt doubled over on top it will look pretty, I think, along with pillows and cushions. It should make an inviting place to sit and read, as that room gets good light.

I still have to finish pulling up the timber strip that the carpet is nailed to around the edges (I'm sure it has a name but wouldn't have a clue what it is!) and also remove all the staples that held the underlay in place. Right now, though, I'm exhausted from tugging on carpet, my fingertips feel abraded from the rough underside, my shoulders and arms are sore from strain, so I am going to spend a bit of time reading before getting ready for this evening, when I'm off to my sister's for dinner. Sounds like a plan, yes?

Last Day of Pros Week! Happy together

It's been fun, this last week, picking pics to post and seeing everyone else's Pros pics. I'm out tonight, but here's a little something I prepared earlier.

Once again all from the advent calendar, on the 14th Dec, and all entitled "Laugh". A nice way to finish the week, I thought.
