Say what?

From an article on www.news.com.au today - apparently Family First senator Steve Fielding feels that the Budget will crush the hopes and dreams of Australian families. In particular, "Paid parental leave was a plus but delaying the scheme until 2011 was a disappointment, and the government could backflip on the promise," he warned.

And full-time mothers wouldn't even be eligible under the scheme - which wasn't fair.

Am I missing something here? Okay, maybe I'm biased because I had to resign from my job in order to have my family - there was no such thing as maternity leave then, paid or otherwise - but it seems ridiculous to me that someone who was not contributing via taxes towards the economy would even contemplate receiving government payments for the privilege of popping out a child, outside of the existing FTB A & B.
