Little rant

One thing that really, really annoys me is the way that victims of domestic violence are portrayed in the media. Every ad campaign I've seen has featured a slovenly stereotype; messy, uncombed hair, and scruffy clothing. The message seems to be that neat, presentable, respectable women don't get knocked around, therefore if you just dressed nicely and brushed your hair occasionally the violence would magically stop. In other words, it's nobody's fault but yours that your partner lifts his hand to you. Just once I'd like to see an ad featuring a well-groomed woman in business dress with a black eye.
