I had a panicked phone call from my sister last night - she'd paid her husband's mobile phone bill via internet banking but managed to overpay it by $11,000. After half an hour on hold she finally got through to someone, only to be told that the department she needed to speak to closed at 9pm and it was now ten minutes past.
A very anxious night was had, and finally she got hold of the right person this morning. Bank should be able to reverse the transaction, provided the telco agrees that the payment wasn't required. It can take up to ten working days, though, before the money is back in her account. Worse case scenario - her husband's phone bill has been taken care of for an awfully long time!
