See this is what happens when the organisation you work for is in cost-cutting mode
There was a morning tea held at our regional office today for the handing-out of long service awards and Customer Service Superstar of the Quarter nominees. I wasn't a winner, but just being nominated was nice.
In previous years / quarters, these nominations and awards have been held at a proper white-tablecloth luncheon at a classy restaurant. Today's event was held in the meeting room, and on offer were microwave-warmed party pies, sausage rolls and chicken wingdings. No beverages, not so much as a cup of coffee. The whole catering effort seemed as though someone had just nipped down to Woolies and grabbed a few packets out of the freezer section.
Still, it beats the alternative. I do still have a job at least.

Ha - d'you reckon the chaps at the top made do with a trip to the supermarket, or do they still get the linen tablecloths and champagne...? But yeay for being nominated!

At the moment I'm thinking the chaps at the top might have scored a chinese takeaway, if they were lucky. Things are tight!

Congratulations on being nominated and as to the dodgy catering they tell me it's the thought that counts... they keep telling me that. *g*

Thank you...and yes, I agree that it's the thought. Coming to the attention of the state manager is never a bad thing, surely. Especially at the moment. *g*

At least they are cutting costs where it will hurt the least, although they could have provided tea or coffee.

Congrats on being nominated.

That's a good point, actually. There are worse ways of cost-cutting.
