Christmas plans!
All booked - flights to Sydney, airport parking, it's a done deal. I'm going home this Christmas! Well, I say home yet I haven't lived there for nearly 30 years; my sister and her family are there though so as far as I'm concerned home is where family is. My son and his lady are flying to New Zealand to spend Christmas with her folks this year and while I have no objections to rattling around here by myself I decided it was a brilliant opportunity to travel south. Eeeeee!!!

South? Does that means you'll have snow for Xmas?

Wrong time of year, my friend! And even in winter it's exceedingly rare / can't recall it happening, that there would be snow in Sydney. I grew up there and never saw the stuff until I moved away.

Oups! Still 180° off, I see... My sister would be so proud of me :-)

I'm glad to see your geography is as sketchy as mine! *g*

Geography is not so bad. It's orientation that's the problem ;-/

Ah, Christmas... *g* Interesting point about home being where family is - when mine were over here, I thought of home as the Isle of Man, cos that's where they lived, but I can't seem to think of their current home as "home", somehow, even though it's even in the country that I was born and grew up in! Psychology, eh...? *g*

I'm sure I'll say so again later, but have a good time!

It's weird, isn't it. Did you ever live in the house they're in currently, or the on the Isle of Man? If the latter, then perhaps that's why you thought of it as home at the time?

I've never lived in any of their Aussie houses - and in fact the Aussie houses aren't anywhere near where we used to live, so that explains that I guess... though now I've stayed at bro's place for 3 weeks it feels more home-ish, than before I guess! And I did live in the IOM in 2/3 of the houses, all of which were mum's, so were more of a continuation of growing up I guess - even though they weren't really, especially the last one which felt less home-y...

I suppose I have a strange relationship with the idea of "home" anyway though, cos I don't even now have my "own" home - I lodge in someone else's. One day... perhaps, if rents don't keep hiking up so that they're nearly as unaffordable as buying!

Rents are getting ridiculous here too. I approved a loan today for a young couple; their current rent is $410pw and their loan repayment will be $1645pm so for $5 more they'll be paying their own mortgage, not someone else's.

Isn't it just. And with my son overseas, I thought - why not.

WOW! Off to the real BIG smoke eh! It's great when family can get together for Christmas.

Well it's the biggest smoke we have, that's for sure :-) . And if the bushfire season is true to form I may see more smoke than I planned on.
