Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?
Pinch me please and remind me that I'm awake. Work sounds idyllic; why doesn't it feel that way?

Lenders' meeting today, with our caretaker LDM in charge for the first time. Meeting started at 10am; I could have had an extra hour's sleep in if I'd read the agenda before hopping on the bus! :-( . Morning tea in the form of coffee, sausage rolls, pies, fruit platter and yoghurt was provided. Lunch consisted of Vietnamese salad (very tasty!) and then at 2pm we were off to the local bowling alley for a couple of games - at which I spectacularly sucked, but after a couple of wines, who cares? - and then a 4pm early mark.
So why aren't I feeling the love?

Why aren't you feeling the love...?

Yes good question, one that I've been asking myself all afternoon... I think subconsciously I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop. I'm having trouble with the idea that we might have actually deserved this treat, for all of our hard work, especially when it was pointed out to us that we are - state-wide, not just my team - running to about 30% of our year-to-date target currently, and my team has supplied less than half of that 30% . Curse my suspicious mind! It would be nice to be able to sit back and just enjoy the treat.

Maybe it's the other way around then - maybe New Person thought that having a treat-like meeting would inspire everyone to be loyal and happy and up their act! So maybe it's not so much a well-done treat as a do-more-please incentive?

A bribe, you mean? *g* I must admit that was my first thought, when the coffee order first came around.
Ooh, just saw the wording on your icon and now I have an earworm, thanks for that!

I'm reminded of the old poster "beatings will continue until morale improves."

It's difficult not to be suspicious of their motivation but in the meantime you got a nice day out of it at least. *g*

Yes, I'm trying to look at it like that - hey it was a day out of the office, a free lunch, and a bowling afternoon. Now just get on with it!

I suspect it's the same reason I don't feel the love at LS regardless of fun team-builders and glowing promises of change. Burned too many times to risk belief that there really is no ulterior motive or that they actually give a crap about the human beings who work there.

And it all just feels like they're thinking that an afternoon out of the office makes up for all of the other shit.
Caretaker manager said he'd seen the results of our last staff survey, which indicated that 70% of us said we weren't happy at work. His suggestion was that we find other jobs; that's probably easier, than, oh I don't know, FIXING things.
