Could do with a dull moment round about now
This was my branch today:

And this is why: Or as my Incident report read- Mad Gunman loose in the Mall.

We were in lockdown from the start, sitting out in the back office area with the bulletproof screens raised. Luckily one of our ladies had bought morning tea so we had plenty to eat, and we could follow the goings-on via the Brisbane Times website which had rolling updates. Eventually the guy was taken away but the decision was made to leave the branch shut for the rest of the day. We even had a counsellor come in to talk with us, but her advice consisted of "don't self-medicate, and call me if you need to talk" which had us rolling our eyes a bit, seeing as how most of us had plans to go out tonight anyway.

So. Adjourned to the pub mid-afternoon, then to my ex-boss' farewell. Damn but I miss her, and she's only been gone three weeks. Was good to catch up with her though. Hopefully one day I'll work with her again.

ETA: THREE TIMES I've rotated that top photo to present right-way-up but obviously it has a mind of its own!

Wow, that is enormously dramatic and scary. But I must say I highly approve of the pub-as-therapy :-)

Pub therapy is good *nods head* although the counselor didn't seem to think it was a good idea!

Oh wow - sounds like that's you in the article too, right? after staff locked themselves behind the glass counter - or was your bullet-proof thingie different...? *g* Actually, just the idea that you work with a bullet proof screen is a bit scary, when you think about it... just in case...

Poor guy, too - there must be something serious up, to be driven to that...

Your pics look the right way up to me, btw!

Wasn't us in the article, our bullet-proof screens are big metal jobs. It's funny, but you tend to take them for granted when you work with these things - fly-up screens and hold-up alarms etc, but days like today bring it home to you just how important these measures are. It was really reassuring to know that while we sat on our bums playing Fruit Ninja there was a thick screen between us and any stray bullets.

Now remember, Pros is just a TV show, we're not supposed to live this way. *g*

Glad to hear that it was sorted and that you got to leave work safely and early. ♥

I was just wondering whether you felt any need to run out, hide behind dumpsters, yell "cover me" and roll over car bonnets and tackle someone. Having a stiff drink first of course!

I had considered all of the above but my trousers weren't tight enough for me to carry it off in style.

Agreed! Not a day I'd like to relive any time soon.

WOW! What an exciting way to end the week! But where were B & D when you needed them? I'm sure they would have flattened and handcuffed him in minutes without all that bother. *g* Although he looked to be very muscled up - steroids?

There's a blurry photo CCTV photo in our paper, and all I could make out were all the bystanders holding up their phones getting photos. It's mad world.

B&D certainly would have been useful - especially if Ray came back to the branch a la Involvement afterwards to make sure we were all right. ;-)

I couldn't believe how reluctant some members of the public were, to follow police directions. One old dude with a walking stick was arguing with a policeman about his right to go shopping in the mall - cop replied "well if that right entitles you to get shot, you just go right ahead."

EEE! Glad no one was hurt, including the gunman who sounded like he really needed help.

It was lucky - though I don't think the guy with the gun was really out to hurt anyone but himself.
