The last couple of days
My visit to the Gold Coast was short and sweet, but a real welcome break from routine. Got home late yesterday but it felt as though I'd been away a lot longer than I actually had.

Didn't do much, just bummed around the area, walking on the beach which was badly eroded from the recent high tides, and had a poke around the shops. Also made a trip to a garden pot seller where I bought two gargoyles! I'm thrilled with them. They're terracotta colour but judging from the weight in them I'd say they're made of concrete, and they're about 45cms tall. At this point I have no idea where I'm going to put them but I'm sure they'll find a home in my garden somewhere. I'll have to take photos once I get them set up.

This was the view looking straight ahead from the unit, out to the sea. The beach was only a block away.

Night time view, looking north. What didn't show up in this photo is the lights on top of the police car which was stationed at an intersection two blocks north; a man had been stabbed to death there in the early hours of Sunday morning and that whole block was closed off.

So, home again, and this morning my neighbour came over to ask if I'd heard or seen anything unusual last night. He had an intruder at around 9pm, up on his front porch, having clambered over a locked gate to get up there. The man fled when my neighbour confronted him - although he did ask my neighbour to let him out of the gate (and Roy refused, telling him to get out the same way he got in!). Police were called but of course the intruder was long-gone by then.

Funny thing was, at one stage last night Ziggy went a little bit mental, dashing to the back door and trying to jump up onto the handle, then rushing to the front door and repeating his actions, all the while vocalising quite loudly. This was totally new behaviour for him and I wondered what on earth his problem was. After talking to Roy, I remembered that it was while I was watching Four Corners which starts at 8.30 so it is quite possible that Roy's intruder upset Ziggy somehow. Anyway, I went out and bought a padlock for the gate at the top of my stairs today, and have actually bolted my deadlocks for the first time ever. I think that guy got enough of a fright last night to keep him way, but not taking any chances.

Ziggy is a good watchkitty! <3

It was really strange; Ziggy seemed really desperate to get outside but he's not allowed to go out. It was quite out of character for him - I wonder if he was trying to alert me to a stranger in my yard. Yet Bodie didn't disappear and he usually bolts whenever someone strange comes over / walks past the house.

Keep safe! My two female cats will freeze and go on alert if they hear anyone or anything near the front door, then the both race off to hide somewhere, ha. My cat Gabs will run to the door wanting to see who's there, and my dog Zero will also run to the door growling.

Ziggy's pretty outgoing and will usually greet visitors while Bodie will disappear at the first sign of a stranger. He stayed where he was, so I'm not sure if the intruder did come onto my property; or if he did, maybe he was quiet enough that he didn't alert Bodie. Zig was in the kitchen so he could have seen something / heard something at the back door, I don't know. The sensor lights turn on if a palm frond waves near them, and you'd think they'd be deterrent enough! Maybe I need a dog, too....

I'm glad you had a relaxing trip but sorry to hear about your neighbour's intruder.

Good watchcat you've got there. :D

He is a little beauty, isn't he? *g* I'd back him in a fight with an intruder too, he doesn't know when to give in.

Ziggy has a number of odd behaviours; I was thinking that this was just one more, albeit late to manifest. But in hindsight I think he knew there was someone there that shouldn't have been.
