Europe by night
I had a friend over for dinner last night, and I can't remember when I last laughed so much. She was telling me about her trip to Europe with a guy she met through the university where she used to work; this guy is a retired professor and lives in a tumbledown cottage in Wales for half of the year, then moves from hotel to hotel during the colder weather, keeping his personal possessions in garbage bags in the back of his car.

Her trip included some of the most touristy sites in the world - which they managed to visit at night, as he doesn't like crowds. Her photos of the Eiffel Tower were taken from the car as he drove around the base, while her Leaning Tower of Pisa is black-on-black. They drove through London - literally through, at night, without stopping - while he pointed to various spots of interest like the Tower of London. There you go, he said, now you've seen it!

I can't do justice to the story of the car breaking down in France, and the need to cart all of his bags of stuff with them on and off the ferry to Dover... but it was hilarious. Anyway, it was a great night, but I have to confess to feeling somewhat under the weather this morning after making it to bed at 2.30am, and getting up early to go set up a hall for tomorrow's cat show. Next time I invite her over I'll make sure it's on a night where I can sleep in the next day.

Now that is a lifestyle! I kind of wish I could fit all my stuff into bags... *g*

It would make it easier to move around, that's for sure. But I like having a place to call home.
Friend has emailed me since, saying that she forgot to tell me what happened at Cambridge university, and she'll tell me all about it next time we catch up. Watch this space... :-)

Sounds like a brilliant evening and that your mate has some great stories to tell.

It was fun, and apparently there's still more to come. Looking forward to it!

I don't suppose that was the sort of sightseeing she had in mind. *g* It's great to be able to have a good laugh though hope you didn't frighten the cats.

"Sightseeing by Night" - hmm, wonder if there's a market for it? *g*
