30 Days of Blogging - Day 26
So I finally got up the courage to watch Torchwood: Children of Earth. I've been putting it off for literally years, knowing that it's the tv equivalent of a death fic, and even though I knew what was going to happen I still didn't want to actually watch. I can say honestly that episodes 4 and 5 both made me cry, but at the same time I'm glad I have seen it now.

And I was introduced to QI today - brilliant! I'm only half way through season one; have an awful lot of catching-up to do.

Found this on another comm tonight - if ever you wanted to put things into perspective, this will do it for you.
The Scale of the Universe.

What is QI, please? Never heard of that one, being an ignorant American as I am, ha. I finally watched all 8 episodes of Les Revenants, that was some freaky stuff! I quite enjoyed it, will they just leave it hanging like that or will there be a second season/series? I think you are the one who introduced me to that show.

It wasn't me who introduced you to Les Revenants; I haven't seen it, although it sounds fascinating.

QI is a quiz show hosted by Stephen Fry. Getting the correct answer is not important - the most important thing is being "quite interesting". Have a look at youtube, there are heaps of clips there. It's funny as.

Oh gosh, ha, guess I'm getting senile, ha! Now I'm gonna have to track down whomever it was who DID put me on to Les Revanants! Yeah, it was a good show, lots of brooding, vaguely ominous atmosphere and I could swear I read the short story version of this somewhere, so I wonder if they made it from that story or vice versa kind of deal, ha. I'll have to look up QI on youtube later, thanks!

I think you'll enjoy it.

I have mixed feelings about COE. In some ways I think it was really interesting, the set up for it, Jack's impossible choice and even more impossible decision and I don't even object to Ianto... except I wish they'd made it less pointless.

QI is one of my favourite things EVER. Enjoy!

I sat riveted to the tv through all five episodes. I didn't think Ianto's death was pointless; he was in the wrong place at the wrong time, was all, and it led to Jack feeling even less a part of the human race and made him more likely, imo, to consider sacrificing his own grandson. And the 456 had to show that they meant business.

QI is really good! I've only seen a few episodes so far, although I have a vague memory of seeing an episode when I was in the UK a few years back.

I just meant if Ianto's death had been more heroic I don't think the fans would have had such a big problem with it as then it just seemed like they were fridging Ianto for Jack's manguish.

You have several seasons ahead of you then and most of them are up on youtube too.

.. they were fridging Ianto for Jack's manguish. Oh you've no idea how that made me laugh! Pretty accurate description too.

Seasons 1 - 8 have mysteriously fallen on to my hard drive; I'll go looking for the rest once I've watched my way through those.

You've only just met QI? Hee, you have *hours* of fun ahead of you! Hours... and hours... and, well, months, really :)

I enjoyed Torchwood: Children of Earth - what made it fascinating for me is that my parents watched it too. It's not exactly their thing, but my mum liked Peter Capaldi very much, so... :) And it was interesting to hear their comments on it on the phone!

Perspective... oh! Have you seen the one called Power of 10? I think it's on YouTube somewhere. Aha - Powers of ten. I remember it being shown on children's television in the late seventies or early eighties. It starts a bit jaunty, and then gets really quite awesome.

Months' worth of QI sounds grand, actually!

I put off watching CoE for years as I knew what was coming, but one of my friends at work wanted to borrow it and I could hardly lend it to her without having seen it myself.

I hadn't seen Powers of Ten, thanks for that! It's really quite amazing, isn't it, how small a place we really take up.
