A coat for all occasions.
At last count I had over 40 coats / jackets / blazers yet here I am tonight, browsing online and adding another six to my wishlist. This needs to stop because seriously, who can wear all of these in one lifetime? But I have thick, warm coats for winter bus travel, and blazers for business wear, and neat jackets for dressy-casual occasions, and less formal jackets for the weekend, and coats that squish up for travel, and anoraks for wet weather, and.. and... yes, I'm a coataholic.
Let's not get started on the cardigans.

More than 40 coats?

wow!

You're lucky you don't live in a country with 4 "real" seasons!
:-)

(I have nearly that many coats...)

40 is a bit ridiculous for where I live, but you do need to be prepared for anything! :-)

I understand the attraction : I love coats too, and have lots of them.

Though these days, I have to restrain myself to buying what I need, not what I want :-(

Sometimes, retirement s*cks.
But only sometimes :-)

See, that's why I need to buy all the coats now - won't be able to afford them in retirement! *g* Considering that a fair number of them are work-related, and won't be needed in retirement, my comment is erroneous.

Oh but I do envy you, being retired now. I still have at least 12 years to go....

That's too bad :-(
Since I did not have contact with the customers, most of my work clothing is still useful (since it was mostly jeans and t-shirts).
It's been years since I bought anything specifically for the office : it was casual Friday all week :-)

This too shall pass!

I love a well cut coat and believe the love rides on my English genes seeing as how we need to wear them for so much of the year.

That said, I very, very rarely buy coats or boots anymore as in this part of the world there's so little use for them. Oh, the locals wear them but to me it never really gets cold here.

Ooh, coats and boots are two of the best things about winter. In fact, along with jeans they're probably the ONLY good things about the colder months. Not that it gets all that cold here either but one makes do.
