There is still some mystery in this world
Although there's less and less each day. I just read about the "Voynich Manuscript" and how, finally, a scholar has started cracking the code to decrypt the 600-year-old text. It's fascinating stuff! You can read the history of the manuscript here, browse the contents - including illustrations that seem to have lost none of their colour over the years here (scroll through the plates, they're amazing!) and then read about the translation work here.

A somewhat more mundane mystery popped up in a fic rec I was reading tonight. Moreover the author implented a particular rhetorical device which really ameliorated the expression of the text. Now I'm afraid to read the fic, in case I don't understand it either.

Awwwwww, first year lit students. *squishes her little cheeks* Erm... yeah, great fic rec. :D

Thanks for the link on the Voynich Manuscript. Right now I'm thinking of how my grandmother always used to say "knows everything, understands nothing." *g*

I like your grandmother's comment, very true of some people. This manuscript just goes to show there's still a LOT we don't understand, or even know :-)
