Not too sure about this...
I was given a home log-in to my work desktop today, and I'm not really certain that it's a good idea. Up to now, on really busy days at work, I couldn't be expected to work of an evening as well. But now that I can access my work desktop from home, it's a little bit harder to get out of doing extra hours. Of course it would be a bonus if I was short of sick leave and had to work from home for a couple of days because I was too ill to go to work, but that's about the only advantage that I can see.
I'm so used to working with two screens, too, that it will be awkward and difficult to revert to just one. Might have to see if I can log in from my laptop, and connect my big monitor to that as well so I have both screens running.

I wish I had my mate Blythe's TRAP! icon right now. :D

We too can log in from home. It IS helpful on those days when you're too sick to drag yourself out of the slime and to work but are still capable of doing some (save those precious sick days) but it can be a trap. My department is pretty good about it but a colleague in another campus department just developed convenient problems with her home internet connection the first couple of times her office got demanding and they stopped asking.

I like the thought of convenient internet problems. Or PC problems, another good one. I do like the thought of staying home if I feel off-colour, without actually using up a sick day, though. And perhaps moving to a couple of days per week telecommuting, eventually. That would be ace.
