LJ playing nicely again
I haven't been able to log on here since Friday, and Down Right Now kept saying that LJ was down, but it looks as though the problem can't have been widespread as my flist was pretty active still. So maybe just my part of the world? I don't know - am just glad that it's up again now.

I got my car fixed at last! I hadn't realised how depressing it was driving a car with a huge scratch up the side, until it wasn't there any more. Also got the front bumper resprayed (someone hit it last week at the supermarket - thank goodness it was LAST week, and not this!) and the rear spoiler, too, which had gone quite dull and scratched from the sun. It looked as though someone had taken to it with steel wool. But now it's all nice and shiny again!

So shiny that my son's front fence is reflected quite clearly. The panel shop washed the car before giving it back, but they didn't touch the inside - I spent today cleaning out the fine coating of paint dust (expected, seeing as how both drivers' side doors were removed) and also the dusty wet hand prints from the interior surfaces (very unexpected indeed!). The only part I didn't clean were the boot hinge recesses, and only because I didn't even think of it at the time. Otherwise the car has been detailed to within an inch of its life, and it came up like a brand new car.

And really, even though it's technically seven years old in November, it's still a lovely car, and it hardly goes anywhere so it will stay feeling new for a while yet. Odometer clicked over to 70000km on Christmas Day and now it's still under 74000km. Hasn't stopped me from looking around lately, though, and finding a gorgeous Vixen red XR6 Falcon - same as my last car, only much newer, with only 12000km on the clock - and going to visit it yesterday. Went as far as sitting in it, but declined the salesman's offer of a test drive. If I'd driven it, I'd have been lost....

No only your part of the world. I could not log in yesterday morning. DRN said that LJ was up, and it was only me ;-/

Nice car!
Seven years? It doesn't look its age.

I never had a car for more than four years... a visit to a dealership, and I'm lost... Don't even have to get to a test drive...

Except for this last one. It was such a departure from my usual preferences that I really wanted to try it on the road to see if I liked the handling...

I do :-)

Nice to know it wasn't only me having trouble with LJ on the weekend, then.

My last car was only with me for three years; I probably would have kept it for longer if people hadn't kept running into the back of it. Although how you could miss a BRIGHT RED FORD stopped in front of you I couldn't figure out.

I know, right? If you go as far as visiting the dealership, it usually means you're committed to buying already. I only ended up there because I had to drive right past on my way to somewhere else, and, well, no harm in looking, right? *g*

My personal best is eight months :-(
Yeah, not really a good buy that one was!

Don't the stats say that RED cars are more dangerous than other colors? :-)

I visited my dealership recently. And I resisted! Of course it helped that they don't make the model I want with a stick shift anymore...

Really not ready for an automatic.
Or a bigger car!

Eight months has to be some kind of record. Even my ex wasn't that quick to trade his cars in, and he went through plenty.

It is for me :-/

I don't like big cars (it was a Nissan Altima), and it was expensive to run too!

The Altima is a very handsome car, though I didn't know it was expensive to run. It's the one thing that puts me off getting a Mini, the cost of servicing it.

I didn't know it was expensive to run.

As in "you can't hear the engine, so first thing you know, you're doing 140 on the freeway" expensive.

Gas price weren't even what they are now, but still...

Any excuses will do :-)

Ewww pretty. Nice and shiny! Looks brand new doesn't it? My poor car is the same color but it has car cancer and needs to be repainted desperately. I'm missing a hub cap too...my poor baby.

Lj seems to be having issues in different regions... I had some issues posting and editing this morning.

It DOES look shiny now that it's been resprayed. And they did such a good job of matching the paint; it's not perfectly black, but rather a very deep charcoal in some lights. But you can't see where the new paint starts and the old paint ends.

Ouch re hubcap; do you know when you lost it? Here, hubcaps propped up against the gutter are a familiar sight; if someone finds one, they stand it up so the owner can spot it easily if they should come looking.

Had no idea when I lost the hubcap. I drove back along my usual routes but there was never sign of it. Sigh. I could probably find one at the junk yard but that would take a bit of effort that I just don't have in me. lol.

That's a real shame. They can be hard to match, too.
mrua7mrua7 on September 24th, 2014 12:18 pm (UTC)
I haven't bothered trying as my car is so decrepit looking.

How lovely to have it all fixed up and gleaming like new again. "D

I am impressed, I am, even if I say so myself. I've always loved the way it looked when it was clean - and keeping a black car clean is not easy, not sure I'd own another one - but while it had the huge scratch up the side it hardly seemed worth the effort.
