Food and phones.
I don't often post about food, probably because I don't often cook, but last night the mood was upon me and I just grabbed whatever I had to hand and threw it in a frying pan with a knob of butter - ended up with broccoli, cauliflower, two carrots, a capsicum, some cherry tomatoes, aubergine, mushrooms and chicken breast, plus some crushed garlic. Once they'd heated through and the chicken was brown I added a cup of vegetable stock, then let it reduce down to nothing before serving up. It was delicious! I made enough for two nights, so tonight's dinner was very quick and simple - two minutes in the microwave to reheat.

My phone has been refusing to hold a charge for a full day lately. Typical, I was thinking, that's built-in obsolescence for you. My phone contract had only expired in June and it seemed that no sooner was it out of contract than it needed replacing. So, much googling, and checking out of new phones, and railing against the increased monthly cost of a new plan and handset, and calculating whether I was better off just buying a new phone outright, and comparing phones, and carriers, and... finally decided on phone / plan / carrier combination, still fuming over the expense and the trouble of re-downloading all the apps that won't fit on my SD card - and then it occurred to me that I could always just buy a new battery for my current phone. And $8 on ebay later I had done just that.
But I am nothing if not perverse, and now I feel quite disappointed that I'm not getting a new phone.

Your meal sounds like one of my experiments I throw together since I've stopped eating bread and red meat. (the latter is more recent as the price of beef has gone through the roof as have the quality of the meats the butcher is offering at a reasonable price...no thanks I'll just pass)

Brilliant fix for the phone! I

Meat is terribly expensive. I can take or leave red meat so it doesn't bother me, really. And cutting back on bread too, trying to remove all grain from my diet. Is that what you're doing?
Certainly a cheaper fix for the phone, anyway.

trying to eliminate breads and pastas as I'm diabetic and they wreak havoc with my blood sugar. This summer I had way too much bread as it was easier to make sandwiches than to cook ...since it was so hot.

So when I had my quarterly blood tests the results weren't good. Dr. increased one med and told me cut back on the carbs. So I have and what a difference it's made.

So no red meat, no breads or pastas. Lots of veggies, chicken breast, soups, salads. legumes, nuts... Have become more creative in my food preparations.

Honestly...I really miss the bread though...especially Italian. I could have a little but it's just not worth it when I see how it spikes my blood glucose.

Your food choices sound like the beginnings of a Primal diet. My son follows the paleo diet and he says he really notices the difference if he breaks out and eats bread etc - he feels sluggish and hung over the next day. So your diet would be doing you a lot of good.
And I think I missed your birthday? Happy belated one, I hope you had an enjoyable day.

I miss bread but have to admit, I'm feeling better without it AND I think I'm finally dropping some weight.

Thanks for the birthday wish! It turned out to be an okay day...better than usual. "D

An old uni flatmate of mine used to call that sort of meal fridge velcro. *g*

Such a descriptive phrase! I call it scratch, because it's a result of scratching around in the fridge.

glad to see you have sorted your phone problem ...but did you really want a new one . that so reminds me of what i do sometimes ..just throw different foods into the mix and see what develops xx

...but did you really want a new one . Well, yes and no. I'd spent so much time making the choice, researching brands, and checking plans, and wandering into telco shops to check out the size... so it was a bit of an anticlimax to just buy a new battery.
On the other hand the thought of setting up a new phone with all my current apps etc was not appealing. And the added expense wasn't really welcome. So all in all I'm better off just with the battery.
