So sleepy....
Nearly midnight and still it's 25 degrees; there's a breeze blowing through my house but it's not enough to cool things down. I miss the southerly busters that we used to get in Sydney, which could drop the temperature by around 15 degrees in as many minutes.

We had a huge storm on Wednesday night, which I hoped would take some of the heat away, but all it did was add to the humidity. Being eleven floors up while the storm was crackling around you was really something. The rain was coming down so heavily that the wall of glass behind me was opaque, and I imagined that was what it would be like living underwater. My walk home from the bus was an absolute treat, everything was washed clean and green, there were frogs singing in the drains, and the lorikeets were going mental in the trees behind the pub.

Feeling just a bit weary tonight too and not just from the heat. My sister came over last night and we watched some Who and drank some wine, then watched some Pros and drank a bit more wine, and next thing you know it was 2.30am and she thought she should wander home. I decided to check my email before going to bed and she emailed me, and that went on for another hour. And then, the roadworks? In front of my house, going on for the last two weeks? Started up again at 7am. On a Saturday. Noisy bobcats reversing with constant beeping, cutting up concrete pipes with an electric saw, men talking in loud voices... I'm operating on three and a half hours' sleep and not feeling good about it.

Storms not breaking the humidity levels are standard here where it often feels even hotter afterwards.

Ouch. I hope you managed a good night's sleep despite the heat.

That's often the case here too - it might bring a temporary coolness (if you were to stand out in the middle of it, for instance) but then it's muggier than ever.

I ended up over-sleeping - woke up at eight and thought about getting up, then next thing I knew it was ten am. Made for a short Sunday :-(.
