Mall Day!
Shopping today! Local department store always has good sales in January and today they were offering 30% off the already-marked-down price of their sale items, and either 30% or 40% off the original price of everything else. The one thing I really needed was summer blouses for work and I managed to pick up five today, marked down from $70 to $40 and then 30% off - brilliant! Also jeans, a weekend tshirt and a cute little pale green cardi. Fun!

It was a bit of an expensive day though. Before the shopping began (and after being woken again by the heavy machinery outside - I hate them. I hate their children, I hate their unborn children) I had a trip to the vet as Bodie was refusing to put any weight on one back leg this morning. Poor little guy, he didn't enjoy the trip in the car and was practically doing somersaults in his cage, trying to get out. Vet couldn't find anything drastically wrong other than a little puncture mark on his hip (thanks Ziggy) so on the assumption that he's developing a cat bite abscess he's been loaded up with antibiotics (a two-week injection - how cool is that!) and pain relief. He dozed quite happily on the trip home! And he's walking much better tonight, too, I was pleased to see.

Your Cookie sounds like my Bodie, not an ounce of aggression in her. And 2-week antibiotic shots are quite new to me - last time I had a cat needing antibiotics was only a year ago and at that time I was given tablets and not offered a long-lasting shot. It's wonderful to see the advances being made in pet care.

I have, in the past, gone through the "ick" stage of abscesses with draining and flushing. It's really not pleasant, I know. I've been lucky that the last few times someone has developed an abscess I've usually found the 'hot spot' before it's had a chance to get really nasty, and antibiotics has been enough to do the trick.

Same with me on the antibiotics, only pill form. That incident with Cookie and the hot spot/abscess was the only time I had to deal with such a thing, thank goodness.

Bodie sounds like such a lovely cat!

He's a sweetheart. He looks like a big bruiser - and weighs in at nearly seven kilos - but he's a really gentle boy.

7 kilos! Wow my Bowie was that big. Same thing, looked like a big bruiser but was very sweet and gentle. It'll be a year on the 16th that he's gone. Still miss him terribly.

It takes a long while, doesn't it. It's the worst part about letting animals into our lives - theirs are so short in comparison and it inevitably ends in heartbreak.

So true! I was spoiled by previous cats who lived for 22-23 years. I only had Bowie for roughly 5 years as he was an adult rescue. He was around 8 years old. Yep, (sigh) they're part of our family.

My Minnie and Luna are wonderful...but they're not Bowie.

I know what you mean - some cats just grab you by the heartstrings and don't let go.
