The hatches, they be battened down.

Cyclone Marcia is due to cross the Qld coast around Bundaberg at about 3am tomorrow, before turning southwards towards Brisbane. At present it's a Cat-3 storm but warnings are out saying that it could intensify. Oh joy. It's expected to dump around 300mm of rain on the city tomorrow, bringing strong winds along with it. I've brought inside anything that could become a weapon in strong wind, only leaving out my big heavy garden furniture that I can barely drag.

And that's the extent of my preparations. There are reports of people panic-buying in the supermarkets today, but that just seems a little bit over the top. My biggest concern is whether I'll still be able to walk to the bus tomorrow, or be forced to take the car - I love my morning walk and will miss it, if it's pouring with rain.

Spare a thought for my brother in law, on a ship heading back from Papua New Guinea and traversing the storm area at present. He can't be enjoying his trip. Also my friends who headed up to Bundaberg a week ago for a camping trip - first they had monsoonal rains last weekend, then an earthquake at the beginning of this week, and now the cyclone! I don't think they're meant to leave home.
