Surprise holiday
As usual it's been really quiet at work this week so I wasn't surprised when my boss asked if I'd like to take tomorrow off, provided I had enough leave available. Hell to the yeah - and I have over 200 hours leave so it's not a drama at all. I'm hoping that today's rain will continue for a bit longer so I have an excuse to curl up on the couch with my kindle and finish reading indybaggins terrific Sherlock AU fic Cake and Other Sins which I'm a quarter of the way through. So far it's fantastic, please check it out. Don't let the AU label put you off; her characters are so well-drawn it doesn't feel AU at all.
Just check the tags, though; there are no warnings on the fic but the tags are a bit of a heads-up.

Another thing I'll do tomorrow is try and arrange catering for my soon to be daughter in law's hen's night. Talk about last minute - it's exactly one month away and I was asked today to take care of it. And not only arrange, but pay for. To be honest I'm a bit annoyed at the short notice, from her matron of honour who is arranging everything else. I wish she'd asked back when she first made her plans, so I had more time to budget for it.

Also helping my sister plan for her husband's surprise 60th on Saturday; she's keeping the food at my place so he doesn't twig, and has given me a shopping list of things yet to be bought so I might do some of that tomorrow as well. It's useful, having a day off in the middle of the week.

"Hen's night." That must be like a bachelorette party in the US. Or is that more like an American "shower"? Thanks for the Sherlock rec.

More like a bachelorette night, I think - the female equivalent of a buck's night or stag night. Sex toy games, male strippers, the works. Should be fun.

I think it takes some nerve to drop the hen night planning on you at the last moment and it IS the last moment where catering is concerned.

On to the positives though and a day off in the middle of the week! \o/

I was quite annoyed, to be honest. I'm actually wondering, now, if J's mum was originally supposed to help pay for it but found she couldn't afford to; it would explain the late notice, at least.

Good luck with all the party planning! And that doesn't sound exactly nice or polite, to just inform you that you have to do it? *frowns* I hope you can figure it out without too much stress!

And thank you for reccing me! Really, it's so lovely of you! *squees a lot* :)

She didn't exactly say I HAD to do it - more like "If you can't then we'll just ask everyone to bring a plate" which didn't sit right with me. I wonder whether she originally had planned for the bride's mother to pay, only to find she can't afford it, it's the only reason I can think of for the late notice.
