To be honest I've not been sure that Moffat was good for the show. His scripts got more and more complicated, although there were some absolutely brilliant ones, too, like Blink, but it seemed he just got carried away with his own cleverness. And I wasn't surprised to hear that the ratings dropped from a high of eleven million viewers, down to four million - although that seven million that stopped watching were largely teenage girls, I suspect, who couldn't cope with a doctor who was as old as their dads. Personally I think Peter Capaldi is great in the role.
Also finally heard the first rumour of the doctor's next companion, being a lass who had a part in the 2014 Christmas special, but the name escapes me. I've been wondering when we were going to hear something about the casting, and was a bit worried that the lack of news meant that the show was possibly being canned.
On the upside, perhaps Moffat will have a bit more time to devote to Sherlock now....
