Could have been an expensive weekend
I had two issues this weekend that I thought were going to cost a bomb to fix but the gods were smiling on me and all is good!

Firstly my PC decided to shut itself down on Friday night - no warning, just switched itself off. So I'm freaking a bit inside because my PC and I switched it back on; it started to boot up then switched itself off again, then booted up again without me touching it, switched itself off again... repeated this half a dozen times before finally booting up properly. It's been okay since, and my son the computer geek has told me it was probably a one-off (although he's champing at the bit to build me a new one!)so it looks like I'll be keeping it for a while yet. Mind you, it's seven years old, so I wouldn't be surprised if things started going wrong.

The second thing to worry me was my gas heater. With winter approaching (so they say!) I thought it was time to fire it up and make sure all was working okay, but it wouldn't stay lit. Frustrating! I had this problem once before, when it cost me nearly $400 to get it fixed, and I was reluctant to spend that much on it again, when it's over 20 years old now. I got online, looking for a replacement, and stumbled across a troubleshooting Q&A on the manufacturer's website. Someone else had reported the same problem, and there was a suggested course of action which I tried, and voila! my heater lives to warm me for another season!

Heater? Winter?

I thought you didn't have any of those down your way?

Yes it does actually get cold (by our standards!) and we even have a couple of months where the overnight temps drop to single (celsius) figures. I usually start needing the heater of an evening around the beginning of June, through to about mid-August.
I've even been sleeping with more than just a sheet on my bed, this last week. ;-)

We had snow on my birthday... just a few flurries and it didn't stay, but still...

And for the last few days? Sunny, and the temps have finally gone over in the 20s ranges.
Between noon and 3pm at least.

A different world!

It's amazing the info you can find online. Good for you! What did we do without the internet?

I ask myself that daily. Without the internet, I'd be facing an expensive replacement!

LOL Everything we need to find out something, we run to Google.

Congrats on your good fortune. \o/

Our air con has become... "moody" yeah, let's say that and I'm dreading it dying and the expense involved.

Oh dear, they're not cheap and they're not a luxury either, you have to have one. Here's hoping it grows out of its moods and gives you a bit more time yet.

Good when positive things happen at the same time! Happy for you!

Thank you! I was quite relieved, as replacements would put a huge hole in my plans.

Another one with PC problems! Mine just kept freezing on me, wouldn't turn off, so hit the restart button. Sometimes it cooperated, sometimes not, so had to pull the plug and leave it off for hours, like 24 hours! Ended up getting it seen to and $340 later, it's going like a dream. Needed a new motherboard and processor. They had been in there for quite a few years. *bg*

Glad you found a solution to your gas heater as it might come in handy. It feels really weird to still be wearing summer clothes when Winter is supposed to be only a couple of weeks away.

What a pain! Glad all is working well now though. I replaced the graphics card in my machine about four years ago but apart from that it's been okay. Still, they don't last forever....

It's been warm for an awfully long time this year, hasn't it. I still had the back door open last night, and here it is late May. Still just a lightweight bed cover, having graduated from just a sheet a few weeks back. And last week was the first time I've worn trousers to work this year. But you know what it's like - we'll go straight from summer to winter, no mucking about with autumn for us!
