Could have been an expensive weekend
I had two issues this weekend that I thought were going to cost a bomb to fix but the gods were smiling on me and all is good!

Firstly my PC decided to shut itself down on Friday night - no warning, just switched itself off. So I'm freaking a bit inside because my PC and I switched it back on; it started to boot up then switched itself off again, then booted up again without me touching it, switched itself off again... repeated this half a dozen times before finally booting up properly. It's been okay since, and my son the computer geek has told me it was probably a one-off (although he's champing at the bit to build me a new one!)so it looks like I'll be keeping it for a while yet. Mind you, it's seven years old, so I wouldn't be surprised if things started going wrong.

The second thing to worry me was my gas heater. With winter approaching (so they say!) I thought it was time to fire it up and make sure all was working okay, but it wouldn't stay lit. Frustrating! I had this problem once before, when it cost me nearly $400 to get it fixed, and I was reluctant to spend that much on it again, when it's over 20 years old now. I got online, looking for a replacement, and stumbled across a troubleshooting Q&A on the manufacturer's website. Someone else had reported the same problem, and there was a suggested course of action which I tried, and voila! my heater lives to warm me for another season!

What a pain! Glad all is working well now though. I replaced the graphics card in my machine about four years ago but apart from that it's been okay. Still, they don't last forever....

It's been warm for an awfully long time this year, hasn't it. I still had the back door open last night, and here it is late May. Still just a lightweight bed cover, having graduated from just a sheet a few weeks back. And last week was the first time I've worn trousers to work this year. But you know what it's like - we'll go straight from summer to winter, no mucking about with autumn for us!
