A bit of bookish time travel
Went into Dymocks Books at lunchtime today, to have a look at the children's book selection, and to my very great surprise and delight I found a copy of "Milly Molly Mandy". Instantly I was six years old again, sitting up in the mulberry tree with half a jam sandwich in one hand and the book in the other, and pretending I couldn't hear mum calling me in for a bath and tea. It's amazing how seeing a much-loved book can transport you right back in time like that.

I'm making a shortlist of children's books that I want to buy, starting with a gorgeous collection of the Paddington Bear stories, fully illustrated, and all in the one large hardcover book. There's a Dr Seuss compendium which put a huge smile on my face, and of course the Magic Faraway Tree, and the Wishing Chair books by Enid Blyton. Also all the lovely lovely picture books as well. And now I've added MMM to that list too.

I really loved bedtime when Jay was little (and not just because it meant the start of adult time!). Bedtime always involved a bedtime story, and we read our way through so many books together! I still have our original copies of Winnie The Pooh and The Wizard of Oz; sadly most of his books had been packed in a box and placed up in the ceiling cavity of my last home, and I had forgotten they were there when I moved. By the time I remembered, and got in touch with the people who had bought my house, they had thrown the books out. Who throws out books?! Philistines.
