Another one gone
David Bowie, Alan Rickman, and now George Michael. Is 2016 ever going to stop kicking butt?

What? *goes to newspaper...*

I mean... he's young - and "unexplained but not suspicious"...? This bloody (and literally) year...

I know, right? He was younger than me, just so unexpected and awful.

Oh that's too sad, I hadn't heard about that! So much talent, gone in an instant. It's been a terrible year.

PS it was all over the news by yesterday afternoon, so it did get the world's attention.

I know. I'm really sad. He seemed like a really decent guy, on top of his music talent. A lot of his songs were the soundtrack of my teenage years, and I feel like some of my adolescence has flown away... RIP George.

He did a lot of work around LGBQT issues - I like to see "celebrities" using their high profile for good causes (eg Martin Shaw and Hilltop). For the longest time though his career was defined by that tawdry incident in the public toilets - seems unfair that the news services focused on that so much more than the good work he did.

Yes, he did. And it's transpiring he'd been a much more generous and selfless person than it was credited by the media while he was alive, not just with LGBTQ causes but also with NHS staff and various charities.
I've always admired him for being unapologetic about his sexuality, in an era where it was far from easy coming out without facing obstracism and ridicule, and remaining an outspoken advocate of gay rights and gay sexuality for the rest of his life.
